Keith and I attended our nieces 2nd birthday
party a couple of weeks ago & I had a blast. It was cool observing the kids unapologetically being themselves. When
they didn't want to do something they knew how to say NO. (loudly & repetitively)
When they wanted cake or
to pet the animals they knew how to work for it by asking.
(and crying) LOL! My oldest niece Marley
was afraid of the life size Dora & she made it clear she did not want to be
near a life size Dora. (It would’ve freaked me out a little too) I even told
her I would hold her and she wouldn't have to be near her, but she held her
ground & told me she did not want to go outside if Dora was out there too.
As l reflect on this moment I realize at 32 yrs old I could
be more of a Toys R’ Us Kid too. What I mean by this statement is that my niece
Marley held ground & said NO. She was scared of Dora cased closed! (I love
her spirit!)
How many times in life have I said yes out of obligation, feeling
guilty, etc. I've learned that sometimes you just have to say no even if it
hurts someone’s feelings,( check out Keith's post on Loving When It Hurts at somerstorm.blogspot.com ) even if it won’t get done the right way without you (ego),
or even if it seems crazy to everyone else that you’re saying no. No does not have to be the end, it can be a beginning too!
